Will it affect my roof warranty?
- Broken seals. Sliding a guard under the first course of shingles lifts them and breaks the self-seal strip between the shingles.
- Wind damage. Once the seal is broken, high winds can lift, curl or blow off the edge shingles.
- Fastener holes. Screws or nails driven through the guard and shingles into the roof deck create leak paths — and most shingle warranties don't allow it.
Major shingle makers like GAF and Owens Corning say inserting anything under the shingles at the eave can compromise coverage in that area. Our guards fasten to the gutter only — nothing goes under your shingles or through your roof.
